A Colour-Filled Wedding at Potters Receptions, Warrandyte

Some weddings are defined by a colour palette. Others by a location, a season or a particular moment. Veronica and Raphael’s Potters Receptions wedding in Warrandyte brought all of these things together—a spring celebration filled with extraordinary colour, beautiful family connections and a sense of joy that carried right through to the final sparkler exit.

From the beginning, this was never going to be a monochromatic wedding.

Brilliant yellows, deep reds, oranges and rich floral tones appeared throughout the day, giving the celebration an almost painterly quality. Against the gardens, timber and architecture of Potters, the result felt completely at home.

Wedding Preparations at Potters Receptions

Raphael began the day getting ready with his parents at the family home. Among all the usual moments of preparation, there was one particularly important request: Jinx had to be included.

And quite rightly.

Those quieter hours before a wedding often become some of the most meaningful photographs of the day. They aren’t necessarily about the suit, cufflinks or final details; they’re about home, family and the people—and occasionally dogs—who are part of the story.

Meanwhile, Veronica prepared in the bridal suite at Potters Receptions, surrounded by her bridal party and an incredible display of spring flowers.

The florals had an especially personal significance. Veronica’s mum created the arrangements herself, including Veronica’s bouquet and the bouquets for her bridal party.

And she did an extraordinary job.

Rather than playing it safe with muted tones, the flowers celebrated colour. Brilliant yellows, reds and warm spring shades brought life into every part of the preparations and became one of the visual threads running through the entire wedding.

A Chapel Wedding Ceremony in Warrandyte

The chapel at Potters provided an intimate setting for Veronica and Raphael’s ceremony.

With its soaring interior softened by beautiful drapery, the chapel has a wonderful sense of warmth. On this day, it became the backdrop not only to Veronica and Raphael’s vows, but to the emotion shared by both families.

That’s something we always watch for during a ceremony.

Of course, the couple standing together at the front matters, but so do the glances from parents, reactions from family and the small exchanges happening around them. Those moments build a much richer photographic story of a wedding.

For Veronica and Raphael, there was plenty of that story to tell.

Wedding Photography Around the Grounds of Potters

One of the pleasures of photographing a wedding at Potters Receptions is the variety available without needing to leave the property.

The established gardens, open lawns, trees, architecture and quieter corners throughout the grounds allow us to create very different photographs within a relatively small area.

For a photographer, that’s invaluable.

It means portrait time doesn’t need to become a major interruption to the wedding. We can move between locations, work with the changing light and create a combination of relaxed photographs and more considered portraits while still allowing the couple to enjoy their day.

For Veronica and Raphael, the spring landscape gave us another beautiful contrast to all the colour that had already appeared throughout the morning.

And when a veil enters the equation, sometimes you simply have to let it fly.

A Reception Inspired by Art

If the flowers during the preparations hinted at Veronica’s vision, the reception revealed it completely.

Colour was everywhere.

Rather than following the neutral, monochromatic styling seen at so many contemporary weddings, Veronica drew inspiration from the richness of Renaissance-era paintings.

The tables were layered with florals in reds, yellows, oranges and purples, fruit, glassware and beautiful textural details. Seen together, the arrangements felt almost like still-life paintings brought into a modern wedding reception.

Even the cake continued the idea.

With delicate piping and sugared fruit, it looked perfectly at home among the flowers and tablescape surrounding it.

These are the details we love photographing because they document more than decoration. They preserve the thought and personality that went into creating the atmosphere of a wedding.

Music, Speeches and a Very Personal Surprise

Once everyone was seated, Raphael’s father took on MC duties and the celebration moved firmly into reception mode.

Then came a surprise.

Raphael sat down at the keyboard, joined by his best man on guitar, for a performance for their guests.

Moments like this are impossible to manufacture—and that’s precisely why they’re so good to photograph. The reactions around the room become just as important as the performance itself.

From there, the evening moved naturally towards the dance floor.

And it was a very good dance floor.

For us, the best receptions are the ones where we can simply work within the energy of the room—watching, anticipating and photographing people as they forget we’re there. Veronica and Raphael certainly made that part of the job easy.

Planning a Wedding at Potters Receptions?

As night settled over Potters, the venue took on another character.

The warm lights around the grounds gave us an opportunity to create a final series of portraits that felt completely different from those made earlier in the day.

Then, surrounded by their family and friends, Veronica and Raphael made their way through a sparkling farewell.

After a day so full of colour, family, music and personality, a sparkler exit felt like exactly the right ending.

And judging by the smiles on their faces, they thought so too.

Finishing the Night Under the Lights

Located in Warrandyte, Potters Receptions offers something particularly valuable for couples who want their wedding day to unfold in one location. From bridal preparations and the chapel ceremony to portraits throughout the gardens and the reception itself, there are opportunities to create a complete photographic story without spending large parts of the day travelling between locations.

For us, however, a venue is only ever the setting.

What made Veronica and Raphael’s wedding memorable was what they brought to it—the colour, the personal details, the involvement of their families and a celebration that genuinely felt like their own.

Because years from now, the photographs shouldn’t simply remind you what your wedding looked like.

They should take you back to how it felt.
